In previous posts I have made reference to sacred geometry, and while it is not a requirement for crystal grids, some people believe these geometric symbols have a great deal of power to assist us with the strength of the intention we are setting with the grid. As you likely know, Sacred Geometry is about the patterns that are based on a foundation of circles, squares, and triangles – simple shapes - which exist in our Universe. When we use these patterns as the foundation for a crystal grid, we are activating the unique knowledge of the crystals that we are placing on the grid. These grids or symbols have specific meanings and energies so by using them and complementing them with the right crystals we can create a stronger foundation for the intention of our crystal grid. When these shapes are built upon one another, the three dimensional Platonic Solids are created. (These are often associated with the Chakras and so you may already be familiar with them!) It is often thought that these three dimensional shapes are what form all of life on this planet – animal, human, plant and crystal – since we are all created on basic geometric shapes and are fed by the Universal life force. In any case, there is much to learn and know about Sacred Geometry and this could be a lifelong study unto itself, so I am going to present and discuss only a very familiar symbol – that of the flower of life and the symbols that are part of it. The Flower of Life (FOL) The Flower of Life is based on a circular pattern and is one of the most sacred symbols throughout the world and it can be found in many faiths. It has a great deal of historical meaning and has been found in temples, manuscripts and art throughout the world. It is composed of overlapping circles arranged in a flower-like pattern, containing hexagonal (six sided) symmetry. This symbol is believed to contain information about all living things and people consider it as a type of Akashic Record. Philosophers, architects, and artists have all studied this geometrical symbol because of its perfect form and proportion. For example, Leonardo da Vinci studied the FOL and its mathematical properties. He drew geometric figures representing shapes such as the platonic solids and also used it in his artwork. There is no real documentation as to what ancients believed about this symbol even though it was used in multiple places and civilizations to adorn buildings. More recently this symbol has come to be associated with: enlightenment; the Tree of Life, both in Hebrew and Shamanic traditions; platonic solids; soul level, universal connection; as well as possibly being a portal to other spiritual or physical dimensions. Thought to begin as the “seed of life”, it depicts the cell division of an egg (embryo) – which is life’s very foundation. Each time a cell divides it becomes 2, then 4, then 8 etc. until it grows into a fully establish organism. Just as with this division, when we add more and more spheres to the Seed of Life it grows into the Flower of Life. The Seed of Life is formed from seven circles being placed with six fold symmetry, forming a pattern of circles which acts as a basic component of the Flower of Life's design. According to some, the Seed of Life depicts the 7 days of creation wherein God created life. Also, within the Flower of Life depiction, you will also find the geometric symbol called the Fruit of life. You can find this yourself by taking 13 spheres (circles) from the Fruit Of Life. These 13 circles represent the 13 systems of knowledge. It also contains the geometric basis of Metatron's Cube, which brings forth the platonic solids that I mentioned above. (In future blog posts I may discuss the Seed of Life, Fruit of Life, Metatron’s Cube and Platonic Solids symbols more in depth so keep an eye out for those if you are interested!) Other Sacred Inferences: Remember that the circle is the most basic element of the universe – think planets, spirals, and the life giving embryo that I referred to earlier. Circles represent unity, creation, and the inclusion of all things and matter. When you create a grid to bring together a group of people, and idea or a project, circles are a great way to go! You may want to also consider numerology. In this instance, let’s think about the power of threes. The number three gives the spiritual energy of joining the past present and future; three brings balance and stability (think tripod); it is the Holy Trinity; and the trefoil is sacred in many cultures. Most often, pentagon-based grids are connected with nature – in particular, plants and animals. Traditions and manuscripts indicate this shape is used to create a full bounty, good harvest, protects plants and animals; and to help bring into alignment people and the lands. Remember that each design and shape, as well as the numerology of the stones and the kinds of crystals you use can play a role in your crystal grid and getting the most from it. Each item you add to your grid can be used in harmony to create more of the intention you are wanting to manifest. This seems like a great deal of knowledge that you must have to grid – but if you read this blog post you know that is not the case. I believe much of this knowledge comes to us when we are openly accessing our intuitive senses and if you want to leave it at that, it is perfectly fine and you will still manifest your intention; however, if you want to take it a step beyond, it is helpful to know the significance of your choices. Personally, I use what I am drawn to – and I do the research afterward to find out how those items have influenced my crystal grid!

In my last blog post I talked about Selenite and explained how it is one of the higher vibrational crystals that cleanses and recharges itself. (Check that out here.) Now I want to talk about some other ways to cleanse and re-charge your crystals! Before I get to that, just a word about why we cleanse crystals! Whether you use your crystals for meditations, healing or simply have them on display for beautification of your space, crystals need to be cleansed periodically because they absorb a variety of energy that is around them – and this, of course, includes negative energy! Their use will help determine how often you cleanse them, but especially important is to cleanse them when you first bring them home. After all, you have no idea where they have been, who has handled them or how they were treated prior to getting to you – so a clear start is always a good beginning! You don’t want your new crystals to pollute the ones you already have, plus it is important that any crystals you use for healing are cleaned so that their energy does not transfer to the next time you use them. Here are some different ways to cleanse your crystals and some pros and cons! If you would like this information for yourself, as a pdf table, just connect with me! Sunlight Sunlight can be used to cleanse your crystals by setting them in the sun. Early morning or late evening sun is the least harsh, and I would leave them only a few minutes. Many people recommend this method, however, I do not as I do not want to crystals to fade if I can avoid it. Note: Some people feel that cleansing crystals in the moonlight is also an option, however, the moon’s energy as much gentler and I do not feel it clears away the negativity as well as the sun does. The Sun is usually a readily available resource and is free. Another bonus is that when the weather is not conducive to be outside, you can cleanse your crystals by simply setting them in a sunny area. Crystals exposed to UV rays, especially harsh sunlight, can fade. This is especially noticeable with Amethyst, and other pink and purple hued crystals. These include amethyst, aquamarine, aventurine, beryl, citrine, kunzite, rose quartz, sapphire and smokey quartz. It can occur over long term, or repeated exposure. Crystals such as fluorite may also shatter and break more easily after sun exposure which also creates problems. Sound Using singing bowls, tuning forks, drums, gongs, chimes, vocal toning and even music can cleanse your crystals. The sound of makes the molecules in the crystals move (vibrate) and when the sound stops, the crystals returns to its original state. In most instances, louder sounds are also better as they impact the crystal molecules ore strongly then soft sounds. Some of these items are expensive to purchase, but others are not. Learning to use vocal toning can also help you personally to increase your aptitude for meditation as well as create healing within your own physical form. While not everyone recommends music, I think it can be effective as long as you are part of the process – not simply turning on music and leaving the room! The most difficult part of using sound is to make sure that the tones you use work with those crystals you want to cleanse. Not everyone believes that specific tones work for specific crystals, but I have found that higher vibrational crystals do need higher vibrational tones for cleansing. Salt/No Contact Salt Salt is a common household item that can be used but is one that I personally don’t advise. The salt will absorb the negative energies that your crystals have taken into them themselves, and then the salt must be discarded and not used for anything else. This is a very inexpensive method and the no contact method is quite simple and provides good results. Instead o burying the crystal directly in the sale, you bury a second glass containing your crystals inside the container of salt – so no crystals are touched by the salt! I do find it to be wasteful of salt and making sure the salt is disposed of properly means taking it outside and allowing it to become one with the earth. This is not always possible depending on your living situation. Direct contact with salt can create issues with some stones and it should not be used with porous, or metal-based stones or stones that have a higher water content. These include lapis lazuli, malachite, pyrite and hematite. It should also not be used with stones that it may scratch such as opal (which also has a high-water content). As well, you will want to brush or rinse off the salt … which brings me to water… Water Water can be a good way to cleanse crystals physically, however, it also does not work for all crystals an so you must know which ones are water soluble so as not to ruin them. When possible, if I am going to use water at all, I prefer to use “live” water – in a stream, river, or larger water body, or even using rain water. Water soluble crystals can crumble with repeated exposure and be ruined. You don’t want to use water on any really sift stones either so make sure none are below 4 on the Mohs scale. Soil Soil is another natural way to cleanse crystals. You can bury them in soil and allow Mother Earth to transmute any negativity from the crystal back into the earth when it is neutralized. Of course, digging a hole is free, and Mother Earth doesn’t mind her babies coming back to her, but you will want to take an additional step of cleaning them (physically) when you remove them from the earth. Since rain/water and salt are also part of the earth, this method may not always be the right choice depending on the type of crystals you are wanting to cleanse. (See the above for salt and water issues.) if you are like me, you might even forget where you have put them 😊 Thought Energy/Reiki If you are trained in Reiki or know someone who is, this is a great option. It is much like using your thought energy to cleanse your crystals, where you simply envision the crystal being surrounded by white cleansing light and picture all of its negativity being drawn out and purified by the light. Since there is nothing here but energy, it is an extremely safe way to go about cleansing your crystals. If you are not familiar with Reiki, it can be a little expensive to take a class, but it is well worth it since it has many uses other than cleansing crystals! Smoke Many people commonly use smudge to cleanse their crystals and there are some really good advantages to doing this. Simply light your chosen type of smudge stick and call in your helpers, asking them to help you remove any negativity from the crystals. Gently move the smoke around and across the crystals a few times. Materials for smudging are relatively easy to find and inexpensive. It is simple to do and effective. You can even gather your own materials and crate your own smudge sticks if you wish or use any of these: sage, sweetgrass, sandalwood, cedarwood, juniper, palo santo etc. Even incense and dried herbs/flowers can be used! Not all people and especially some pets/animals can be around smoke, so it is important to be aware that health issues may result in the use of this. However, most of the time, it is knowing what type of smudge is creating the issue and choosing a different type! Now just a quick note about charging your crystals. It is my belief that you really do not need to charge your crystals unless you are not cleaning them properly. As long as your crystals are vibrating at their natural frequency, they are charged and do not need to absorb more energy. When we use crystals in healing or at any time they have absorbed some negativity, it is important they are cleansed fully as they rejuvenate and are “re-set” back to their original vibration. It is much like a radio station that is experiencing a form of interference – once the interference is gone, the station returns to its regular frequency. Programming or setting an intention with your crystal is quite different from this and I covered a lot about that in my post on crystal grids!

One of the stones I want to share with you is Selenite. This stone takes one many shapes and colours, and has some terrific uses that you should be aware of! One of the forms of Selenite that you are likely to come across is the tubular shape with lovey striations. This shape always reminds me of a castle with its many levels and turrets, or a snowy mountain. Selenite is appropriately named after the Greek goddess Selene – who is the goddess of the moon. This makes a lot of sense given some of the physical and metaphysical properties of this stone. Selenite is made of the mineral gypsum, and goes by other names including Satin Spar and Dessert Rose (which are different kinds of Selenite, having different properties as well). Selenite is known to be very soft (on the Mohs scale is a 2) which means it requires gentle handling and should be wrapped separately so that other crystals do not break or chip it. One of Selenite’s most widely known properties is its ability to clear the mind and help us attain mental clarity. This is especially useful during meditation, so that the messages and information we receive comes through clearly. It can be placed nearby or held in the hand during meditation to facility that is process. This stone is often associated with the Crown Chakra and can help us stay connected to our higher self. Since it connects us to our higher self it is also important that we maintain a balance by also using grounding crystals such as hematite, tourmaline or obsidian, at the same time. In addition to the Crown, this crystal is also connected to the Third eye since it is thought to increase our intuitive abilities. Another property that Selenite is known for is its ability to cleanse and recharge itself without any help from you! In fact, Selenite helps to cleanse and charge other crystals as well so don’t’ be surprised if you find Selenite being sold as a “charging pad”. (More in cleaning and charging crystals in another blog!) Other properties of Selenite include protection from negativity, as it will act like a shield; increasing your connections to angels and spirit guides; use with the chakras to clear out negativity from those energy centers and correct imbalances within the auric layers. Selenite is also a good tool when you are working with a group of people as it aids in increasing the calmness in the room.

Today we are going to take a look at making a crystal grid – what it is and how to do it! I know there are many people who believe there are right and wrong ways to grid. Be warned - I am not one of those people! I love to grid – and I think grids are most effective when we put our heart into them – so by following our own intuition and “feeling” or “listening” to the energy, we end up with the perfect, most effective grid that we can create! That said, there are a few tips and thoughts I want to share with you – especially if you are just starting out or are curious to learn a little more! What is a Crystal Grid? A crystal grid is an arrangement of crystals you have created that increases and multiplies the intention that is set for a specific purpose. The crystals work together to form a single vibrational energy or energetic field which is programmed to assist us or perform a specific duty. Why do we Grid? Let’s begin with the purpose of creating a crystal grid – why so we want to place stones together to form patterns? Doing this helps us focus our crystal intentions and combines all the energies of the crystals that we are putting together. Using a crystal grid, is like the difference from having one great ball player on the field, versus having an entire team. You know that the team will be stronger, and more effective. Why do I need one? If you are very new to crystal grids, you may find it helpful to invest in a grid kit. These often contain cloths, or a board, however, you can also make your own. One of the things I love is using pictures I have coloured – trees, nature pictures, and mandalas all work very well as a surface for your grid. A grid can be done any place we have a connection with. I have used one of my grandmother’s handmade doilies, a mini wooden engraved crystal grid board and even a plain white plate as a place for my crystal grid.. The one thing I do keep in my mind is that metaphysically, many grids are based on patterns of sacred geometry, so it can be very helpful to stick with simple geometric patterns, especially when first starting out. Are Crystal Grids easy to use? Setting up and arranging your crystal grid is very easy. Many grid kits will be aimed towards a pre-set specific purpose and will contain a few basic stones including: a focus stone –and sets of crystals called way stones, and desire stones. Most pre-made grid packages will have a layout diagram and well as instructions. Remember that you do not need to purchase a crystal grid set. You can intuitively pull from the stones you have and create your grid using what you already have. What Crystals do I really need? You definitely need a focus stone. This is the stone that goes in the center of your grid. Its main purpose is to create a focus for your grid and to channel the energies. This crystal’s energy is impacted by both its shape and colour. (For more information about stone colour see this blog post! The stones that immediately surround the focus stone are referred to as the way stones. These crystals are important since they amplify and modify the energy within the grid. These crystals are like the focus stone, in that they are dependent on their colour as to the energy they bring. The stones furthest away from the focus stone are usually called the desire stones. These stones gather all the energy produced by the grid and their amplified nature makes them especially significant as they help to tune into and amplify the energy of the grid’s purpose. Their color and shape can also impact the grid. What is a Grid Path? The lines of energy within the grid you have made is referred to as the “path”. This path is any outcome we desire – it is the purpose we have in creating our grid. The path pulls on any sacred geometry we have used in our grid, nature, and the elements to create a focused energy that is amplified by the connections within the grid itself. The actual path is based on the shape of the grid. This is where studying sacred geometry can add more power and definition to your grids, but is not a necessity because your intuition will lead you to the correct grid for your particular needs. How do I Activate a Crystal Grid? Activating a grid is the most significant part of the creation process because this is the way you are setting the intention and the energy you want the grid to have. To activate your grid, will need to use a Master Crystal – I like to use a clear quartz point but you can also use a wand or any other item that contains power such as a blessed feather. Begin by holding the point above the central stone and follow an imaginary line to the outside “row” of crystals – what we called the Desires Stones above. Then move the point to the next crystal in that same row, and draw another imaginary line back to the focus crystal. Continue this process until all the crystals have an imaginary line running between them and the center crystal. I do this without stopping or breaking the line, thinking about my intention the entire time. Once all of the crystals have been “joined”, then take the point and touch your Third Eye Chakra. You have now activated the grid and this imaginary unbroken line will connect the stones to one another, to the grid, and to you. #sheCARES #crystalgrid #gridsforbeginners #crystalsandstones

Well, it has been an AMAZING year! I have attended my first Expos, been repeatedly involved in a new concept "Wellness Taster", have done many local readings, as well as distant readings for clients in other countries, and have been able to give back to a great non-profit, community organization! As you might know from my previous blog post, I held a fundraiser for SCAT - Street Cat Rescue - on my Facebook page in November. I am so proud and thankful for all who were involved as we were able to raise a total of $1130 which will be well used during the colder weather! From the bottom of my heart, I thank you!! While I am not convinced that 2019 can be better than this year, there will be lots more going on with me! I will be taking a few days away in early January to rejuvenate and prepare for the upcoming year.
